Abbots Bromley Horn Dance 2009

The Horns are collected from the church were they are kept for the rest of the year in the morning, they are danced around a 10 mile circuit taking in all the local farms and pubs where beer and cakes are provided to the Dancers.
I was extremely disappointed to discover that they Cheat!
They dance out of the village, then they don't do the full walk, they jump in a van and drive to the next stop.
It was great fun to be given a lift in their van, they had gone all medeival and bawdy. But still, it is cheating.
The lenght of time they stop at each farm makes following them a tedious business. We walked back ourselves, while they had stopped for another round of sausage rolls and lager, and waited for them back in the village.
They get dropped off outside of the village limits and dance back in. None of the locals we spoke to had any idea they didn't walk the full route.
Shame on you Horn Dancers.

Pan's Picnic

Pan's Picnic as seen through the trees of Highgate Wood. A strict No Photography policy is upheld by the Pagan Federation. It's a shame this 'ritual' really was very funny.
